Today is the most gorgeous day here in Alabama! It is 70 degrees and just perfect.I laugh every time I think about the first show I attended at Bessemer in 2006. We got there early and were one of the "chair people" by the gate. I thought a fight was going to break out when latecomers lined up beside us thinking they were getting in first! Oh no, the security knew that us chair people had been there all day, so everything worked out peacefully!
Earlier that day we had the pleasure of seeing Bo do his sound check. He had a meet and greet, but the way the stage is set up we were able to see him from behind. Several of us walked up the trail toward the water park and we could see him perfectly. We were holding a big tree limb back so that we could see and this nice security guard came over and cut it off for us! I couldn't believe it!
When I got inside the gate I was on the front row. This man with a bigass camera and tripod came and set it up right in front of me! I was hot, furious, and I didn't act very nice to the man! I ended up putting my leg in between the tripod legs and forcing my body in front of his camera. That is SO not like me! When the man packed up to leave I apologized to him. He said he understood and was very nice to me. He left in the middle of the concert so I didn't have to stand awkwardly the entire time!
This show stands out in my mind as the one where I caught my first glimpse of "Kevin". The sound wasn't to Bo's satisfaction and if looks could kill, some sound guy would be DEAD! LOL!! I got some really good pictures that night thanks to Laura letting me use her backup camera. I had broken the lens off mine the night before and was just sick about it. Laura generously offered hers and it made some great pics.
Another funny thing about this show has to do with Kris Bell. At the beginning of the show I looked at him and mouthed, "I want a pick." He nodded at me and the show went on. At the end of the night there was this drunk woman who kept yelling "I want HIS pick" and pointing at Kris. Well, Kris looked at me and leaned over to hand me his pick. The drunk woman tried to grab it from him. Kris literally wrestled it out of her hand and gave it to me! Somebody told me later that the lady had him cornered after the show and was getting quite touchy-feely. Poor Kris!!
Bo was nowhere to be seen afterwards. This was back in the RCA days when they didn't want him to mingle among the fans. The past couple of years have been wonderful because he's been so open with us.
Bessemer 2007 was a lot of fun. I'll recap it tomorrow. :)
