Do I sound overjoyed? It's a dreary, rainy day and my hands are freezing! I guess it's a perfect day to recollect the steamy hot day in June 2007 when Bo was in Bessemer at the Alabama Adventures amusement park!We arrived at the park late for us- one o'clock in the afternoon. There were several of us regulars there and we had made a line with our chairs but we didn't stay in them. We went to sit in the shade at picnic tables or in the air conditioned ice cream parlor.
Several of us went a wee bit wild and got temporary tattoos that said BO on our arms. Fun times.
We were all around a picnic table just passing time when here comes Bo strolling out, carrying a Sony videocamera. He was heading to meet Caroline and Aidan for some fun. We all just waved at him and he smiled, waved and said, "Hey guys!" Let me tell you something. I have never.ever.ever seen that man look that beautiful. Holy crap. He had his hair in a low pony tail and he had on this sheer off-white shirt and some mighty fine-fitting jeans. Apparently some park visitors thought he looked good, too, because he literally came jogging back toward the back of the stage. Some girl had tried to kiss him and the poor thing never did get to spend his time with his family.
Later that afternoon he came onstage and did sound check, still dressed the same way only his hair was now in a braid. Oh my. What aesthetic delight! I couldn't take my eyes off of him.
The gates opened for the concert and this time I was on the second row. Not bad! I ended up standing at the stage with only one girl in front of me. Unfortunately she was taller than me and had this fake hairpiece on her pony tail that kept getting in my line of sight.
Bo had changed into a green dashiki and he had his hair down. This was the first time I had heard him with his new band and they were very professional, very tight-sounding. They had only practiced together ONCE before that show. Amazing.
It was sweltering hot and Bo was too. At one point he leaned back against the speakers and had his head tilted back. I didn't catch a good picture of it, but others did. He did all his See The Light songs and it was a super show. It had been raining and there was water all over the stage but they didn't let that stop them from putting on a great performance.
Afterwards Bo came out onstage and was crouched down, hurriedly signing autographs. Those in our group just spoke to him and didn't get anything signed. We were standing there and this young woman just lunged for him and nearly pulled him off the stage! Bo's face registered annoyance for a split second- Kevin!- and he literally shook it off and continued signing for the others. Why on earth would somebody do that? They know they aren't going to get to pick him up and take him home (that's a delicious thought).
We all jumped in the car and headed out to Ft. Benning, GA. We had another Bo show to attend!
